Dog-Friendly Walks & Beaches in Swansea & Gower
Our favourite spots to take your dog around Swansea and the Gower Peninsula, with practical info on parking, terrain, and seasonal rules.
Beaches with year-round dog access
These beaches welcome dogs all year with no seasonal ban. Some of the best in the UK, right on our doorstep.
Three Cliffs Bay
Arguably the most beautiful beach in Wales. Dogs love the wide sand at low tide, and the walk down through Pennard Valley is stunning. Parking at Southgate or Penmaen. It's a 15-20 minute walk down, so not one for a quick dip, but worth every step. Can be muddy after rain.
Rhossili Bay
Three miles of open sand with the Worm's Head at the far end. Dogs can run for as long as they like here. National Trust car park at the top (pay and display). The walk down to the beach is steep but manageable. One of the best beaches for dogs who love space.
Oxwich Bay
A big, sheltered bay with calm water and dunes to explore. Dogs welcome all year. Car park right behind the beach (council-run, pay on entry). A great option when the wind picks up elsewhere on the Gower.
Port Eynon (western end)
From the main steps westward to the Salt House, dogs are welcome year-round. The rock pools are fun for curious dogs. Easy parking. The eastern section has seasonal restrictions from May to September.
Tor Bay & Pobbles
Tucked next to each other near Pennard. Quieter than Caswell or Langland, and dogs have free run all year. Access from the cliff path above Pennard golf club. A bit of a scramble down, so not ideal for older dogs who struggle with steep ground.
Llangennith & Broughton Bay
At the far end of the Gower. Llangennith is popular with surfers and has plenty of space for dogs. Broughton is wilder and quieter. Parking near the King's Head pub in Llangennith.
Whiteford Sands
Remote, peaceful, and dog-friendly all year. About a 40-minute walk through National Trust woodland from Cwm Ivy. Worth it if you want real solitude and your dog loves an adventure.
Beaches with seasonal dog bans (1 May to 30 September)
These popular beaches restrict dogs during the summer months. Outside that window, they're lovely for walks.
Caswell Bay
One of the closest beaches to Sketty. Dogs banned May-September, but the rest of the year it's a firm favourite. Good car park, easy access, and a cafe that welcomes dogs. The cliff walk to Brandy Cove is worth doing too.
Langland Bay
Another local favourite, just minutes from Mumbles. Seasonal ban May-September. Outside summer, it's a great spot with a dog-friendly cafe nearby. Dogs must be on a lead along the promenade year-round.
Rotherslade & Limeslade
Small, sheltered bays near Mumbles. Seasonal ban applies. Lovely in autumn and winter when they're quiet.
Bracelet Bay
Right next to Mumbles Lighthouse. Seasonal ban May-September. A nice short walk from the Mumbles car park outside the summer months.
Walks closer to home (Swansea & surrounds)
Not every walk needs a beach. These are great for a quick run-around, especially on days when the coast is blowing a gale.
Clyne Valley & Clyne Gardens
Right on the doorstep from Sketty. The Clyne Valley trail runs from Blackpill towards Dunvant. Mostly flat, well-surfaced, and popular with local dog walkers. Clyne Gardens are beautiful in spring when the rhododendrons are out. Free parking at Blackpill.
Singleton Park & Botanical Gardens
A big, open park between Sketty and the seafront. Plenty of space for dogs, and the Botanical Gardens section is a nice change of scenery. Dogs should be on a lead near the play areas.
Bishopston Valley
A wooded valley walk that leads down to Pwll Du Bay. Good mix of woodland and coastal path. Parking near St Teilo's Church in Bishopston. Can be muddy, so expect a dirty dog at the end.
Swansea Bay Promenade
The prom from the Marina to Blackpill is flat, easy, and dog-friendly. Good for older dogs or puppies getting used to being out and about. Stretches for about 3 miles along the seafront.
Penllergare Valley Woods
A reclaimed estate with woodland trails, a lake, and waterfalls. About 15 minutes from Sketty by car. Dogs welcome on leads. Interesting history and a nice change from the coast.
After the walk: a muddy dog?
If your dog comes home caked in sand or mud, a Bath & Tidy can sort them out. June is based in Sketty, just minutes from most of these walks. Get in touch to book.
